Sunday saw the return of the 70.3 Ironman series in Exmoor. Although the heavens opened Ironman’s came in the thousands to part-take in a gruelling 1.2 swim through Wimbleball Lake following onto a 56-mile bike-ride through Exmoor’s hilly scenery and finishing with a 13.1 mile run including a mix of tarmac, hard pack trail and grass.

The Sun was on our side on the Saturday, ready for Ironman Kids and Iron man expo, so there was no need for our ponchos this time! Our protein ice cream flew out the ‘freezer’ as Ironkids crossed the finish line, ready to restore their energy!

Sunday’s weather wasn’t so promising but luckily we set up camp inside the athlete’s village. Despite the weather there was a great buzz for competitors and even with the rain spectators lined up along the red carpet ready to cheer on the athletes.

Eighteen-year-old Brennan Townshend was the first into the tent with a time of 4:42:30 where he found a massively deserved pot of Wheyhey waiting for him!
Soon after the athlete’s village had a great atmosphere with finisher’s congratulating one another whilst grabbing a pot of Wheyhey to refuel- chocolate proving to be the favourite!

Within the tent we met a great guy named Callum Hughes who told us that he was racing for #katieslegacy, after hearing the story we knew we needed to share it. Follow this link to hear the full story of Katie: https://www.justgiving.com/Katies-legacy

Exmoor Ironman’s, thank you again for having us! We hope next time brings us a full weekend of Sunny weather!
